Meeting with Brian Bauer, « cultural attaché » at the US Embassy

Meeting with Brian Bauer, « cultural attaché » at the US Embassy
On the 12th of February,
the
SIA students (Seconde and Première) had the opportunity to meet with Brian Bauer an American diplomat, ''cultural attaché'', who works for the US embassy, in Paris. During the conference, he presented us his studies: he did a triple major in an international school and studied French business in Montreal. He also talked about his role, about his living conditions, the languages he has to learn, his missions in each country for 1 to 4 years and the polyvalence of the jobs offered to him. Then he explained us that there are 1,000 people missioned by the US embassy in France, who work on cultural projects, education, and resolve multilateral issues (wars, terrorism)... Finally, we had a debate on the current Politics in the United States (especially Donald Trump’s chances to be reelected in 2020). It was really interesting to learn more about the American public opinion. To conclude, the conference was constructive for all of us, it was a real pleasure to be more informed on diplomacy and the diplomatic relations between France and the US, which seem pretty good, according to Mister Bauer! Many thanks to Eva Prevost, Advisor at the US Consulate in Rennes, who offered us this great opportunity!
Jeanne Guillo, Seconde SIA
